Clayton longarm and misc thoughts

posted by wmunn on Tue 15 of Jan, 2008 [02:59 UTC]
Well, The clayton front half longarm kit has been installed for about 4 months now and is doing quite well so far. I still have some lingering front end issues and will be addressing them shortly. It's time to get the final kinks out of this thing and get it ready for the Easter(n) Jeep Safari in March :)

I am looking forward to another great camping/wheeling weekend with some friends. Eeveryone should get some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it's good to get away from the daily grind.

update on alloyUSA x-joints

posted by wmunn on Sat 20 of Oct, 2007 [15:14 UTC]
I found out recently that the alloyUSA x-joints I featured in the aftermarket axles writeup are defective. There is a problem with the way they machine the caps, effectively consuming the needle bearings prematurely. Upon inspection of a set of new, uninstalled x-joints, I was able to verify the caps are not machined uniformly. This causes the needle bearings to not seat properly, and wear out very quickly. I am replacing the x-joints with spicer life joints and will reinstall the axles.

A few thoughts on Rock Krawler suspensions....

posted by wmunn on Tue 04 of Sep, 2007 [03:58 UTC]
I purchased a Rock Krawler brand suspension system in November of 2006, and installed it in late January 2007. Since this system was installed, there have been numerous issues with it I feel compelled to share my experience. Rock Krawler uses a type of joint similar to a heim that they call a Krawler joint. These joints have proven to be a maintenance nightmare. They are harsh riding, constantly work themselves loose, and need to be checked at LEAST once every 2 weeks for looseness. All that being said, I cannot honestly recommend this manufacturer to anyone. Caveat Emptor.

This lift will be replaced with products from Clayton Offroad manufacturing, and I will post impressions of their product when the time comes.

Also, on a side note, Given the amount of different suspension and offroad shops I have dealt with in the Central Florida Area, So far the only one I can honestly recommend is Codys offroad in Zephyr Hills. They will listen to your problem, check out the situation and give an honest answer. That's a rare thing these days.

site issues resolved

posted by wmunn on Tue 12 of Jun, 2007 [02:17 UTC]
Sorry about the recent errors with the site. Our site was moved to a new server with a different hosting company, this caused several issues that took us some time to resolve. Things seem to be running normally at this time.

site update coming

posted by wmunn on Fri 04 of May, 2007 [10:11 UTC]
Life marches on and some things slip behind, such is the case with the jeepfliki site. I will be doing some updates and new articles over the next several weeks. First up on the agenda is a review and how-to article for front axle shafts and u-joints!

googlemap test

posted by wmunn on Sat 24 of Feb, 2007 [11:22 UTC]
Added a googlemap of the users on the site. This is a pretty cool feature that will show each user's location on a googlemap, since this is a Florida intensive site, I have centered the map on the entire state. Check it out.

Our First Product Review

posted by wmunn on Sat 24 of Feb, 2007 [10:36 UTC]
Last night I posted the site's first aftermarket product review. It was pretty neat seeing the process through from end to end, there was a feeling of accomplishment getting it all done in a single afternoon. The parts rolled in with the UPS man around 3:30pm and the article posted on the site later the same night.

We also have added several different news feeds from other sites, they can be found in the Jeep News and Current Events News pages. Feel free to bookmark these, as they can make you news gathering simple and productive.

if you have any suggestions or requests for the site, please feel free to contact me wmunn@jeepfliki.com

I am considering getting interested parties together for a small tutorial on how to utilize the tikiwiki software to best effect. More information on that pending.

As always I hope you enjoy making this site your own.
Thank You.

Jeepfliki.com is brought to life.

posted by wmunn on Tue 20 of Feb, 2007 [00:08 UTC]

Wow, a new internet site is born!

Today was the birth of www.jeepfliki.com, a Florida based Jeep information site. Hopefully this is a resource that many Jeep enthusiasts statewide will find useful and utilize to the fullest.

I thought long and hard before deciding to go ahead with this effort. There are already a multitude of florida sites for jeepers, but I noticed that everything is fragmented and local, or strictly discussion forum based. Wikis are a great resource and will serve the needs of Florida jeepers well. This site is an effort to unite many different clubs and forums in a common purpose, sharing information for the benefit of all in a cooperative manner.

Welcome to the site, and feel free to comment on what you want in a jeep site.
